If you would like to watch a polo game, the first step is finding a polo club in your area that offers Sunday Polo.    Sunday Polo is a “traditional day of polo” and is generally open to the pubic.  The Sunday Polo experience is always a surprise to new spectators as they expect   Most clubs are very casual and offer an inviting venue with food and beverage concessions including field-side seating. A few clubs offer polo on Friday evenings or on Saturdays, so be sure to check the schedule before heading out to polo.

Most clubs charge a reasonable general admission fee of between $10 and $25.  VIP or tent seating is usually available for an additional fee.  A few clubs offer free general admission.

The Traditions of Sunday Polo

Tailgating, which is a favorite pastime amongst the polo players, is offered at many polo clubs.  Tailgaters can pull up to the sidelines of the polo field in their car and set-up a picnic.  It is a casual way to watch a polo game and it provides a social environment where you can mix and mingle with the other tailgaters.  Be sure to keep a good distance back from the edge of the playing fields.  The galloping ponies and the ball comes right over the boards during play and you need to be a

The Divot Stomp is a longstanding tradition of Sunday Polo.  At halftime, spectators are invited onto the field to replace the divots that the horses hooves pull up during the polo game.  The  A select number of clubs offer a “Champagne Divot Stomp” where they offer a complimentary glass of champagne to spectators who venture out onto the field to help “tread-in” divots to repair the field.

The Sunday Polo games are usually announced by a seasoned commentator, who helps newcomers understand what is happening during the polo games.  Most of the Sunday Polo Venues offer a printed season program or club magazine that has tips on how to watch a polo game.
